bcsTiger - Warehouse Management System

Product of BCS Polska - universal system for warehouse management, which facilitates the supervision of warehouse processes, from the moment of delivery of a logistic unit or product, through the whole time it is stored in a warehouse, until it is shipped.

bcsTiger has been designed as a platform that constitutes a basis for building a solution according to customer needs. Its main goal is to support warehouse operation through:

  • warehouse processes management
    • optimization of the way they are performed (storing, picking routes)
    • automation (auto-id mobile solutions)
  • warehouse resource management
    • managing the storage area (controlling how much of the warehouse space is filled up, storage optimization, controlling parameters and status of locations, flexible warehouse structure configuration)
    • human and mean of transport resources management (planning the operation of a warehouse, assigning tasks to workers and forklifts)
    • quality control
    • monitoring the warehouse inventory (reports)
  • flow integrity
    • goods flow strategy management (FIFO, FEFO)
    • advanced traceablity of the flow of goods and logistic units
    • compliance with the GS1 system

The bcsTiger is very flexible, which allows it to be used in a great range of company size and in various market sectors:

  • Production - raw materials, semi-finished goods finished products, warehouses organized in various forms of goods storage (in-line or block storage on racks, directly on the floor - silos, piles)
  • Transport and logistics - trans-shipment warehouses (hubs), high storage warehouses
  • Retail sale and distribution - distribution warehouses, warehouse-logistic processes in store.

Basic functionality bcsTiger

Warehouse operations

Operation

Each warehouse operation is performed based on a record, entered into the system or automatically generated based on the status of objects and/or transfers of carriers or packages. After an operation is completed the system generates a warehouse document. All documents can be exported to other systems integrated with the bcsTiger .

Modes of performing warehouse operations:

  • task mode - the system specifies accurately which goods and from which locations should be taken and where they should be placed
  • registration mode - an operator decides by himself which goods and from which location will be taken and the system checks whether the transfer complies with the order
  • hybrid mode - the system plans which assortment, from which locations, is to be used in a task in accordance with an accepted strategy; however, a warehouseman can decide to violate the strategy, about which he will be informed, and the fact registered in the system.

In a situation when it is necessary (and possible) to report planned warehouse operations to the system beforehand, the system allows to enter an order for a specified type of warehouse operation. A warehouse operation is then automatically generated and performed in accordance with a proper order.

  • Receipt/delivery of goods

Receipt documents show from which supplier goods come and contain a list of goods with their amount. After verifying that the goods received match the order, the goods are placed in a warehouse at designated locations. The goods may be received as advised or unadvised delivery.

In the bcsTiger system, the following operations are defined: receipt of external delivery, return or delivery from the production (planned or ad-hoc).

  • Issue / shipment of goods

In the bcsTiger system, the paths of performing operations of shipping goods from a warehouse outside and issuing goods to the production, both planned and immediate, are defined. Shipping documents show to what customer the goods should be send and contain a list of goods to be shipped along with the quantity of goods and logistic units. Before shipments of goods they must be prepared using picking operation. After completing shipment the system counts the actual quantity of goods issued for a specific operation.

  • Transfers

Transfers indicates internal movements of goods within a warehouse, specifying a source and target location as well as which goods and in what quantity are to be moved.

Types of transfers operations: contextless transfer of a carrier, contextless transfer of packaging, replenishments (feeding collection locations) - functionality available in the Optimization module.

  • Crossdocking

bcsTiger allows you to process a crossdocking operation. This operation combines receipt and shipment (without the storage) and indicates the relations between these operations.

  • Stocktaking

The system allows to do a stocktake of goods and logistic units for a chosen range of locations. For the time of stocktaking, selected locations may be blocked, and thus inaccessible for other warehouse operations. Stocktaking may be planned by a controller or suggested as needed by warehouse workers, e.g. after noticing incorrectness in a carrier or location and blocking an object for processing.

Warehouse management

  • Assignment of storage locations

bcsTiger ensures an automatic assignment of locations for carriers delivered into a warehouse. The assignment consists in finding such a location for a carrier that matches the requirements specified by a system user, including the measurements and weight of a carrier as well as the measurements and capacity of a location.

  • Integrity and strategies of assortment flow

The system allows to perform warehouse operations taking into account a required strategy of assortment flow in accordance with the principles FIFO, LIFO, FEFO. It is possible to create other flow strategies or modify the existing ones as an additional modification of the system.

bcsTiger also allows to block specific objects (e.g. to do a stocktake) so that they are omitted when an operation is performed even if meet adopted strategy. It is possible to block articles (individual or batches), specific carriers, locations, production lines.

Flows of logistic units are traced at each stage of their processing in a warehouse in accordance with the GS1 standard. Reports available in the system allow to establish the source and flow of batches of goods in an internal logistic chain, visualization in the form of a origin tree (history) of carriers and batches of goods.

  • Quality management

A user can define quality statuses and perform operations of changing these statuses for whole batches of goods, regardless of location of their individual parts. This allows to specify the range of operations that can be performed for a particular batch of goods. It is also possible to change the status of an object quality (immediately on a mobile terminal).

  • Management of returnable packaging

The system allows to automate the process of shipping/receiving returnable packaging together with shipped/received goods.

  • Analyses and reports

The basic source of data about a warehouse is analytical reports. As a standard, there are several dozens of reports available in the bcsTiger system for all the areas handled by the system (among others defined users, locations and assortments, batches of goods, warehouse inventory, warehouse operation, returnable packaging). It is also possible to generate individual reports at Customer’s request.

To facilitate the cooperation with contractors, bcsTiger also provides a Web interface, which allows contractors to: view warehouse inventory (aggregated, classically, analytically or by carriers), create orders, view own orders.

Automatic identification

  • Use of barcodes and RFID technology.
  • Automatic identification devices: mobile terminals, label printers.

Administration

  • System parameterization
    • Flexibility in defining warehouses, locations and zones, along with configuration of a separate characteristics of storage principles
    • Defining units of measurement, quality classes, carrier types, characteristics of various locations in a warehouse
    • Possibility of using any form of packaging and type of carrier in warehouse operations, automatically converted into required quantities of particular assortment
  • Integration
    • Various methods of integration with external systems (e.g. F-A, ERP)
    • Support of various formats of databases

Functional modules

Depending on Customer needs bcsTiger can be equipped with additional modules extending the functionality of the system.

  • Optimization - allows to plan collection routes and effectively use storage space.
  • Production - allows to supervise the processes of processing units and goods in the storage area, carried out on order of external entities (e.g. production, marketing division).
  • Internal transport - allows to control tasks performed in a warehouse and assign them only to means of transport with proper capabilities.
  • External transport - allows to associate warehouse operations with shipping orders and external means of transport.
