Implementation of WMS based on Motorola products

Velkom CLP offers complex logistic support for companies dealing with interior design distribution. In 2002, the company built a modern warehouse located in Przybysławice by Warsaw-Lublin route, where IBSC Poland implemented its WMS in 2010/2011.

Business problems – implementation aims

The aim of the implementation was support of logistic problems occurring in Velkom warehouse and connected with third party logistic service, especially error reduction during goods identification in picking, tracking batch numbers, managing warehouse space, elimination of paperwork in warehouse service and sharing chosen information to with external contractors via B2B platform.


The system implemented in Velkom is a version of IBCS Poland WMS adapted to LCL (distribution) warehouses, where goods are stored in packages or in bulk, without the need to build logistic units. This solution provides management of all required warehouse processes (delivery, picking, shipment, stocktaking, warehouse flow) and also gives the possibility to co-operate with external contractors through sharing information on current warehouse status and allows to give disposals and view their status. IBCS Poland system in Velkom works on Motorola MC9090 mobile terminals in wireless network infrastructure which is based on Motorola AP5131 device. The implementation included complex delivery of IT system and devices as well as warehouse marking.

Operations started mid 2010 with a business analysis of functional requirements, which were the base for the project of the system. It included a collation of required functionality, description of user scenarios which were images of processes, technical project of the system, description of interfaces for external finance-bookkeeping Velkom contractors’ systems and threat analysis. After project confirmation, IBCS Poland specialists started implementation works that were finalized with internal tests of the system and readiness to start implementation was reported. In the meantime, technical consultants configured and installed devices and network infrastructure, they also finished warehouse marking as stated in the project. The implementation included installation of IBCS Poland system, its stabilization (reported changes and stipulations) and tests of the interface with external finance-bookkeeping systems. After completing stabilization works and reporting startup readiness, in the first quarter of 2011, user training and zero inventory were performed and start of production system occurred, with a few days assistance of IBCS Poland consultants.

Thanks to use of barcodes and mobile computers, the system allows easy, fast and error-free data collection, which translates to quality increase, faster operation, elimination of paperwork, possibility to analyze goods flow with division into batches, as well as better management of storing area. Implementation of IBCS Poland warehouse management system caused rational use of Velkom’s potential and creation of new possibilities of development. Its compatibility with international GS1 standard and sharing integrated B2B platform allowed to improve level of services and facilitated possibility to start new contacts with business entities.
